    The Edison Utility
    ==================

The Edison Utility is an accessory which incorporates 3 very useful
functions. You can install the program by copying it to the root
directory of your boot drive. then doing a reset. From now on, the
Edison Utility is active in background and offers an expanded file
selection box, a mouse accelerator and a screen saver for reducing
burn-in on your monitor. The following sections provide a brief
overview of the command range made available by the program; many
of the functions are actually self-explanatory and additional
information can be called up within the utility itself.

This program is public domain software and was written E. Krajewski
and Hubert Hilgers known for their programming editor EDISON
(Which is actually the best money can buy !).

    Configuration
    -------------
When you select the Edison Utilities entry in the first Menu line,
a dialogue box is displayed on the screen. When the bulb in the top
right-hand corner is clicked, further information about the program
is displayed. At the lower end of the box there are three buttons
for Aborting, Confirming, and Saving the settings. When the Save
button is clicked, a file selection box is displayed in which you
simply select EDI_UTIL.ACC. Furthermore, in the left half of the
dialogue box you can select that part of the program for which
you want to change the settings.

    The following choices are offered:

    File Selection Menu
    -------------------
In the right-hand half of the Edison dialogue box you can now specify
whether the expanded file selection box is to appear instead of the
standard one (click the corresponding Active button).
Furthermore, the Show function allows the user to use the file
functions in this box. In addition, it is also possible to set the
intermediate memory for the copy option.

    The Screen Saver Menu
    ---------------------
In this menu, the Edison Utility provides the user with a means of
determining whether the screen saver is to be used and, if so, after
what length of time it is to become active. Beneath this input line
there is a grey rectangle which represents the screen. The mouse can
now be used to move the two little squares (one marked "+", the other
marked "-") to any of the corners within the grey rectangle. When the
mouse arrow is moved to the corner (of the real screen) with the plus
square, the screen saver activates immediately (sleep corner). The
opposite happens in the corner with the minus square; if the mouse
arrow is moved into that corner of the real screen, the screen saver
    becomes inactive (awake corner).

    The Mouse Accelerator Menu
    --------------------------

Mousespeeder, the Mouse Accelerator The Mouse Accelerator Menu has
the same type of Active button described previously. The mouse
accelerator can be activated by clicking this button. Furthermore,
the menu displays a graphic representation of the mouse characteristics
which can be changed as follows:

    1. By simply drawing this curve with the mouse. To do this, keep the
left mouse button pressed and then trace along the respective section
    of the curve required.

    2. By double-clicking the curve and then holding down the left mouse
key it is possible to draw a line between the origin and the current
mouse position. After releasing the mouse key it is possible to test
    the characteristics which were selected.

However, it is recommended, to switch off the Mousespeeder while
making changes to the mouse characteristics.
